A Word from the Director of Texas Children’s Cancer CenterDavid G. Poplack, M.D.
February 25, 2016
Dear Friends of Mothers Against Cancer,
I am writing in appreciation for the outstanding
support hat Texas Children's Cancer Center receives from Mothers Against Cancer. Our Center has benefitted from the
extraordinary support from Mothers Against Cancer for over
27 years. Over that time MAC volunteers have
donated close to $6 million to help our Center in the fight against
childhood cancer! Countless children have been cured as result of the research funding MAC have provided to Texas Children 's Cancer Center.
Texas Children's Cancer Center is the number one children's cancer center in Texas! We are also the largest and finest cancer center in the nation! Children come here from throughout Texas, across the nation and from more than 25 foreign countries to receive care that they can't receive elsewhere. We do more clinical studies and development of new therapies than any other pediatric cancer program in the world. As a consequence the research that takes place at Texas Children 's Cancer Center is transformational and is helping children through the world. Texas Children's Cancer Center provides the most advanced pati ent care, conducts cutting edge pediatric cancer research and is training the next generation of leaders in the field.
It is critically important that all of you who have who have supported Mothers Against Cancer understand the tremendous impact your support has made on our program. Your funding has made a dramatic difference in the struggle against childhood cancer. Today, children are receiving therapies they would not have access to, if it weren't for Mothers Against Cancer. As a result, more children are being saved each year. We are proud of this progress but understand that it has only been possible because of your hard work and extraordinary volunteerism. Despite the fact that we are making great strides, however, far too many children die from childhood cancer. It remains the lead ing cause of non-accidental death in children. For this reason we need your continued help and support.
On behalf of our young patients and their families, I want to thank you for your ongoing commitment and for the unique partnership we have built to reach our common goal of eliminating childhood cancer.
